Chalkboard Art Fun

Earlier in the week I posted about my unique roadside find that I re-purposed into a chalkboard. I was planning to paint a final design on the chalkboard this week and post it today. But instead I chose to stop and draw the roses. 🙂 Mainly because I never knew how fun chalkboard art can be!

I was planning to paint the phrase I chose from John 15:4 on the chalkboard. So I rubbed chalk all over the chalkboard and was just about to start painting it When my daughter asked, “Mom can I chalk too?” Well if you have a giant chalkboard in the house why not use it. Right?

So my daughters enjoyed entertaining themselves with it for awhile. Then I decided drawing with chalk would be a great way to test different designs for what I would paint on the final piece.

I started drawing different words. And I have to say it was a lot of fun!

Drawing with chalk is unlike other methods. It leaves fudgy lines that are imperfect and implied. I love drawing flowers with chalk because you can be really messy and it still turns out pretty.

The black chalkboard highlights all the colors, and the smudges too. So it has a cool effect. And the best part is,if you make a mistake you just rub it off and start again.

Now I have a decision to make. Do I keep it as a chalkboard or paint something permanent on the board?

After today I am leaning towards keeping it as a chalkboard. That way it will remain a blank canvas. I can add wreaths to it for decorations or pull it out when the girls are bored for another activity. And I might just play around with it a little bit more myself.

Remember when chalkboards were just something that you had at school. Now they are so easy to make for yourself. If you haven’t made a chalkboard yet for yourself I highly recommend it. It’s super easy and is a lot of fun with kiddos in the house.

What do you think are you a chalkboard art kind of person? Do you like the smudgy lines?

Hope you have a good weekend and that you can stop and smell or draw some roses too!

God bless,

Awesome idea, Lizzie! I like what you did and the invitation from the Lord to abide.
