Make this DIY Valentine’s Day banner decoration in less than 30 minutes. When I think of Valentine’s Day I can’t help but think of hearts! These hearts are made from re-purposed items and will add rustic charm to your Valentine’s day decorations.
My daughters and I spent all day Saturday working on Valentines. My oldest daughter did them for her class at school, I made some decorations for around our home, and my youngest daughter joined us by doing her own project at the table.
One of the decorations I made was this DIY Valentine’s Day banner. It’s quick easy and made from re-purposed items. An old chenille bedspread, drop cloth, red ticking fabric, burlap and lace. I think these fabrics give the banner a nice farmhouse look. You can use any fabrics you may have on hand or like. But these fabrics I thought went well together and I did have them on hand.

- lace
- sewing machine or hot glue gun
- twine or ribbon
Here’s how to make a DIY Valentine’s Day banner
Step 1: Choose fabric for your DIY Valentine’s Day banner
The first step is to decide what kind of fabric you will use for your banner. You can have fun with this and choose fabrics or colors that you really love! I was pretty practical with my choices and just went with fabric I hand on hand. But the sky’s the limit with the choices of fabric you could choose.
Step 2: Download your DIY Valentine’s Day banner pattern & cut out
Now that you have a free pattern, download it and cut out your triangles on the burlap. If you purchasd burlap triangles you can skip this part.
Next cut out your hearts on the fabric you chose. You can make the banner as long or short as you want. I cut out three different hearts for each of my fabric pieces. However, my banner ended up being a little longer than necessary. I would recommend using 4-6 hearts for the banner.
Step 3: Sew or hot glue lace on the hearts (Optional)
For this step you can either sew or hot glue lace on your hearts. If you are sewing the lace on a quick stitch works along your lace.
Step 4: Sew or hot glue your hearts to the triangle banner
Now that you have all your hearts cut out and have them laced up. Sew or hot glue the hearts onto the triangles.
Step 5: String ribbon to connect your DIY Valentine’s Day banner
The final step is to string ribbon or twine through your burlap triangles. If you are making your own from burlap. Just fold your triangles over the ribbon or twine. You can hot glue the triangles together or just let them hang. (If you used the pre-cut ones they may have already came with twine on them. So just hang up that beautiful banner!)
And now find a fun place to hang your DIY Valentines’ Day banner! I liked to hang a seasonal banner on our hutch.
And there you have it! An easy peasy farmhouse style Valentine’s Day banner. I love how these fabrics go together. And I would love to see the banners you come up with. Please email me a picture at elizabeth@awellpurposedwoman.com.
I hope you are having a great week and that Valentine’s Day is a reminder of how much you are loved! Here’s a reminder to us of what love is.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-5
