Happy Friday and happy Day 6 of our 12 days of Christmas! That means we are half way through our 12 Days of Christmas crafting! Today’s gift is for you if you love simple farmhouse or more natural Christmas decor! If you have been wanting to make your own stockings but find yourself running out of time. I wanted to make it easier for you by providing you with a free pattern! So today’s gift is a free pattern for Farmhouse Christmas Stockings!
At a recent trip to Hobby Lobby I came across some upholstery webbing in the clearance aisle. I was so surprised that it was just over a $1 for the whole lot of upholstery webbing! It’s natural fibers with red lines seemed so beautiful to me and worth much more than $1! But it made me realize how affordable upholstery webbing is, and how perfectly it fits in with farmhouse Christmas decorating! I have kinda been dying inside to use it for a project, and today is the day!
Today we are going to make farmhouse Christmas stockings with old burlap sacs and upholstery webbing! Part of the inspiration for today’s project came from a friend who I reconnected with recently on my blog. She asked me about how to use old coffee sacs in a project. Well just so happens I came across an old sac I had in my craft room today. And I thought it would be perfect to use the old burlap sac with the upholstery webbing to make Christmas Stockings!
The upholstery webbing makes this project a breeze! Because instead of worrying about making a cuff with your stocking, you can just use the upholstery webbing. And like most of the patterns and projects I have been posting you can do this project without sewing. If you don’t have a sewing machine or haven’t yet learned how to sew.
I have always wanted to make my own stockings. And this was a fun and easy way to make them fairly quickly. So let’s get to it.

Here’s what you need to make farmhouse Christmas stockings:
- Free stocking pattern
- Old Burlap Sac or Burlap
- Upholstery Webbing
- Ribbon or piping for hanging
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Pins
- Scissors
Here’s how you make farmhouse Christmas stockings
1. Print out the free farmhouse Christmas stocking pattern
Download the free farmhouse Christmas stocking pattern. Tape your pieces of paper together and cut out your stocking pattern.
2. Trace your pattern on the burlap sac
Now that you have your pattern cut out. Trace it on your burlap sac. I just cut out two stockings at the same time because I was cutting a sac. You will have two stockings now that you will sew or hot glue together.
3. Cut your webbing and ribbon
Cut your upholstery webbing to be just a little longer than the length of the top of the stockings. sew or hot glue it to the top of your stocking. Make sure you do it on opposite sides of the stockings so when you attach them, your webbing will be on the outsides.
Cut a ribbon 5-6″ long that you can use to hang your stockings. Pin it to the top of your stocking for hanging it.
4. Sew or hot glue your farmhouse Christmas stockings together
Next pin around the perimeter of your stockings.
Then sew a stitch around the perimeter. Depending on what you want your stockings to look like you can sew your stockings together right side up or right sides together. I was going for a simpler look so I sewed right side up. Tie and cut off your ends.
Alternative for non-sewers: If you don’t sew you can also just hot glue the edges of your stockings together.
And that’s it!
That’s pretty much it. You can add extra ribbon or embellishments like initials or names on top. But otherwise that’s all there is to it.
You can use these stockings as your actual stockings or you can also use them simply as decorations. You could put greens or branches in them and hang them on your mantle or even hanging off a cute chair or hutch. There are so many possibilities with these beautifies! Would love to see how you use them or if you make them!
I hope you enjoyed this week and look forward to seeing you again next week!
P.S.Don’t forget to check out the Love Justice‘s craft sale this weekend if you live in the Rochester, MN area! The craft sale fundraiser starts at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 16th. All proceeds go to the Love Justice ministry to end human trafficking, to prosecute traffickers, and protect the world’s most vulnerable!
It’s an incredibly difficult ministry, so if you have had human trafficking on your heart this is an excellent way to contribute to the cause. And it’s a great way to get some unique Christmas presents. Many of my crafts from the last three months will be at the sale. Hope to see you there!
