Garage Sale Find: Hope Chest Makeover

Do neon signs make you swerve in traffic during the summer time? If you are like me your heart beats a little faster with every neon sign you see on the side of the road.

Well if you are really good at making sharp turns in the summer time, then today’s makeover is for you! Becuase today’s makeover started at a garage sale.

Finding the hope chest

Last summer I found this beautiful hope chest at a garage sale in my neighborhood. The chest was so unique and in truly excellent condition. And even though I had a garage full of furniture I knew this chest was coming home with me too!

So after taking a quick glance at the rest of the sale, I purchased the hope chest. Since the hope chest was pretty heavy, and I had two of my daughters with me, the woman running the sale helped me lift it into the back of my truck. And off we went!

Deciding how to make over the hope chest

When a piece of furniture is in good condition it makes it just a little bit harder for me to decide what to do with it. And as I mentioned this hope chest does have a few scratches on the top but otherwise it is in relatively good condition.

The handles of the chest are also unique and so I am trying to decide what to do with them. Would you keep these handles or try something else?

Although painting is a lot easier than staining in my hubmle opinion, I thought this hope chest might look awfully nice with bare wood. I bleached a table awhile back, and loved how that turned out so maybe that would be a good look for this chest as well. Hmmmm…. what to pick!

Let me know in the comments below what you would do with the hope chest and then I will keep you posted on what I decide!

Until next time!

Would you sand this hope chest down to the bare wood? Or would you just paint over it to save time? Let me know what you think!

I will keep you posted! Stay tuned tomorrow!

Don’t paint.. Try some Kramer Oil on it. Can order online. A lot of the scratches will disappear. Lots of times It looks bad because the wood has dried out. I did this to a old beat up desk and it looks beautiful now!!!
