Do you have a drawer full of yarn and haven’t used it in awhile? Learn how to make beautiful Christmas trees of out chunky yarn. No knitting or crocheting skills are needed to make beautiful Christmas trees out of yarn. These trees are a very easy yarn craft for adults or children alike.

Welcome to Day 5 of our Craft A Day Countdown to Christmas! Today we are going to be making Christmas trees out of yarn.

We’ve made many diferent yarn crafts for adults and you can check out a video with 10 really easy yarn crafts down below.

Watch the step-by-step video tutorial on making BEAUTIFUL Christmas trees from yarn and 10 other yarn craft ideas!

But today I am going to focus just on making Christmas trees out of yarn and I am going to give you a step by step tutorial for it.

Here are the supplies you need to make Christmas trees out of yarn:

Here are the supplies needed to make Christmas Trees out of yarn:

  • Paper Mache or Styrofoam Trees
  • Chunky Yarn (Size 7)
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Birch Stump or other Tree Trunk (Optional)
  • Exacto Knife
  • Embellishments (Optional)

Here’s how to make Christmas trees out of yarn easily:

Step 1: Choose your yarn and hot glue it to the bottom of your tree

I love chunky yarn and using it for lots of different projects. The fun thing with these trees is picking your yarn. I reccommend using thick chunky yarn in a size 7 just so the project is easier and quicker. But any yarn will do.

Start by hot gluing the yarn onto the base of your tree. I like to put a strip of hot glue on the base and then attach a strip of yarn in a straight row.

Step 2: Continue gluing and wrapping your yarn around the tree

Now that your yarn is attached you are pretty much just going to continue wrapping the yarn around the tree all the way up. Make sure to push the yarn closely together as you go so there are no gaps in between the yarn.

When you get to the tip of the tree. You will just carefully attach the yarn being careful not to touch the hot glue. I run a strip of glue vertically, wrap the yarn around, then cut off the yarn.

Step 4: (Optional) Embellish your tree & add a tree stump to your yarn Christmas Tree

This paper mache tree had a little base on it already. But if you want to you can cut a hole in the center of the base and add a birch branch or other piece of wood to give the tree a natural look. I did this in the tree in the video.

You can also embellish the tree how you would like it to look. Add a star to the top of the tree or add Christmas picks on the sides of the Christmas tree.

And that’s it! These trees are another simple and easy craft for Christmas!

Here’s a tree that was not embellished that I added above my living room hutch.

This is a pretty simple project! I hope you enjoyed it and if you missed any of the other days of our Christmas Countdown make sure to check them out below!
