Welcome to Day 4 of our Craft a Day Countdown to Christmas: STAR WREATH with Chunky Yarn!
I love decorating with stars at Christmas time. They are a reminder to me of that first Christmas. What would it have been like to see that star over the town of Bethlehem?
To those who weren’t looking maybe it appeared to be an ordinary sky. But to those who were seeking, the three wise men, it was a star of great significance. I think of the words of “We Three Kings.”
“O star of wonder, star of night
John Henry Hopkins Jr.
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy perfect light.”
This chunky yarn star wreath subtly displays the true meaning and deep significance of that first Christmas. I hope this star wreath will inspire you this Christmas! I saw a chunky yarn wreath on Joyful Derivatives and it inspired me to make this star wreath.
Here’s the supplies you need to make a star wreath with chunky yarn:

Tutorial on how to make a star wreath from chunky yarn for Christmas:
Step One: Cut out 15″ strips of chunky yarn
Start by cutting your chunky yarn into strips that are 15″ long. I cut the entire skein of chunky yarn. So I had a handful of stips leftover when I had finished my wreath (about 9 strips).
Step Two: Attach your yarn to the star wreath form
Now take all of your yarn strips and loop them around the wreath form. You are going to fold the strip in half. Place it under the wire wreath form and then pull both ends around and through your loop.
Continue to wrap the strips of yarn and loop them around the entire outside of the star wreath form. Push the chunky yarn together to make sure you don’t have any gaps.
Step Three: Tie knots between the different strips of chunky yarn
Now go back around the star wreath form and attach two different strips of yarn together. Take one of the strips and tie it to the next strip. Continue tying the yarn together all around the star wreath.
Step Four: Trim your yarn around the outside of the star
After tying the yarn around the star. Then trim all around the star with your scissors.
Step Five (Optional): Add Embellishemnts to the Star Wreath
The last step is optional but adds a nice touch to the star wreath. Hot glue Christmas picks or berries onto the corners or top of your wreath.
And that’s it and now you a beautiful star wreath made from chunky yarn.
