Learn how to organize all your Christmas Decorations and and four unique Christmas storage ideas. Taking a few extra minutes to organize your Christmas decorations will save you time and stress next year. Free printable Christmas storage labels are also available in this post.

I love CHRISTMAS and Christmas decorations but knowing how to organize all of my Christmas decorations that’s a different story! As someone who is not by nature organized, learning how to organize Christmas decorations can make my head hurt. But I have been growing in this area because I have been very determined to learn how to improve.

One of the people that has actually helped me with this area has been my husband. Not only is he very patient with my difficulty with organizing he also is trained with a degree in industrial engineering (IE). If you aren’t familiar with IE it is basically the study or creating efficient workplaces and systems.

And although you may be checking out on me right now, I have found a lot of the ideas to be very helpful in managing a home and organizing spaces for my not-so-naturally-organized-brain. So if you would consider yourself more of a creative with not the greatest organizational skills you might find this helpful too.

And even if you are someone who likes organization you may find some of the ideas on recycling household items interesting! At the end I also share a gift for you to organize your Christmas decorations more easily as well. So be sure to read to the end of the post.

But let’s get started!

Here’s a video on 4 steps to easily store Christmas decorations:

1. Gather all Your Christmas Decorations in One Spot

Start by going around your home and gathering up all of your Christmas decorations- fire place mantels, tables, counters, entryways, hallways, any place where you display Christmas decorations.

Then put all of your decorations in the same spot. This is the first step and although you may be tempted to do it one room at a time try to put all of the decorations in the same spot.

2. Sort through all of your Christmas Decorations

Next you are going to sort through all of your Christmas decorations. Take out any items that you no longer use or no longer like. This may include the following items:

  • Outdated and no longer use
  • Items you were gifted but don’t use or like
  • Broken items
  • Items that you are duplicates, if duplicate is not needed

I usually take a garbage bag and a donate bag and keep them handy while I am sorting through my Christmas decorations. Sometimes if I know I will be donating something it does make it that much easier to let go.

3. Put all your Christmas Decorations in a Designated Spot

Then find an appropriate storage bin or container for your Christmas decorations. This is where you can get creative. There are plenty of very neat Christmas storage items that are available to puchase, but also think creatively. What is the appropriate size and shape to store your decorations in? The items listed below are some ideas of recycled items we used this year:

  • Egg Cartons for small ornaments
  • Gift boxes or shoe boxes with tissue paper for fragile ornaments
  • smaller totes or boxes for glass or other items
  • Ziploc bags with ornaments wrapped in paper towels for fragile items
  • Plastic containters or totes for shatter free ornaments
  • Individual ornament containers for glass ornaments
  • Anything else that works!
  • Exmaple: We used Barbie Color Reveal containers to store garlands in this year.

4. Label all of your Christmas Storage Totes

After you have a place for all of your Christmas decorations and have placed them in the storage bin of your choice, then label the storage bins. I created Christmas storage bin labels. And as a gift for people on my email list you can get them below by signing up with your email. I am hoping these labels help you get orangized for 2022 and give you a gift next year when you take out your Christmas decorations!
