Re-purposed Junk Project

Happy Tuesday! Last week was a busy week. I had a garage sale and worked on painting some furniture pieces. I was hoping to empty out my stash of junk in our garage. One of the pieces I worked on was up-cycling this big wooden piece!

I saw this beauty on the side of the road and squealed to a stop. I made a quick U-turn and threw it in the back of the car. Although I didn’t know what it was, and I still am not so sure. The shape was interesting to me. Also I liked that it was solid wood. So possibilities began swirling in my mind.

I wasn’t quite sure what it was going to be. But I guess that was OK since I didn’t know what it was in the first place.

Some sort of farmhouse sign, seemed in line with what I wanted. The curves reminded me of some I had seen at Hobby Lobby. But I was still uncertain so it sat in my garage for a few weeks.

Well wouldn’t you know while shuffling things around for the sale last week. I randomly placed a piece of plywood by it. It was the perfect size to fill in the open space. So inspiration hit.

I decided that I would do a chalkboard back and layer lighter paints on the wooden part. So I got to work. My goal was to have the sign finished for the garage sale.

But with getting everything else ready for the sale, my adrenaline kicked in and my creative brain shut off. I didn’t have time to come up with a design. So it actually sat at the garage sale last week staring at my mom and I like a blank canvas.

My mom said it reminded her of snow and winter and thought a winter phrase would be nice. I suggested several but she wasn’t so sure about them. She suggested I pray about what to write on it.

I just barely painted in some areas to give them a distressed feel.

Great idea mom! I think I finally figured out what to write on it. My plan is to finish it by the end of the week. But in the meantime let me know what you think of it. Any idea what it was used for?

Now it’s like a blank canvas so exciting! What would you do with it? Any phrases or verses come to mind?

Check back later in the week to see the final project!

God bless you,
