Learn how to make a beautiful DIY Christmas Grapevine Wreath in a few easy steps. Literally anyone can make a breath taking wreath in just a few minutes. If you have been wanting to make a simple DIY Grapevine Wreath for Christmas here is a simple and clear tutorial for you.

I am big fan of using natural items in home decor for several reasons. But one of the biggest reasons is it is free! My daughters and I make a habit of collecting beautiful items in nature wherever we go. So I knew this would be the perfect, foraging project for us.

For this simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath I knew I would want to use a variety of greens. So I have been noticing pine and other coniferous trees and bushes for the past few months. Trying to envision the types I would want on my wreath. Choosing the greens just kinda fell in place.

Foraging greens for a simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath

My daughter Emmie and I got outside on one of those beautiful above freezing December afternoons. While walking we spotted the most beautiful pine tree. The green color and the softness of the pine needles was truly stunning. I was admiring how beautiful the tree was and of course picturing it on a wreath. To my surprise there just happened to be a big branch full of greens that had fallen from the tree. So Emmie and I picked it up and put it in our stroller.

Another bunch of greens were taken from my friend Andrea’s recycling. When I pulled up to her house this week I saw she had a bunch of evergreen branches cut up. They were piled up in her recycling so figured I would only be helping her out. Yep! You guessed it. I added it to the collection.

The last set of greens were from bushes in our yard. Each set of greens were unique in color, texture and length. They seemed to compliment each other well. But I did buy a small bunch of artificial eucalyptus leaves that I used too.

If you are wanting to make a simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath, my encouragement to you is that there are beautiful greens all around! Just a branch or two is all you need. It would be a fun activity to do with your children or grandchildren. And if you can forage for greens you will save money and get a nice assortment of greens in your wreath.

But you can always skip the foraging and just buy greens at a floral shop or craft store. Either way let me show you a very simple way to make a stunning yet simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath. There are only 3 steps!

Here’s what you need to make a simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath:

  • Grapevine wreath form
  • An assortment of greens (choose at least 3-4 with a variety of types and colors)
  • Pine cones
  • Eucalyptus leaves
  • Scissors
  • Floral wire

Here’s how to make a simple DIY Christmas grapevine wreath:

Step 1: Make 4-5 bundles of floral greens

Start by sorting your greens and putting together 4-5 bundles of your greens together. This is the fun part so have fun with mixing your greens, until you get a bundle you like. I varied which greens I put in the front and which ones I put in the back, to add some randomness to the wreath.

Once you get a look you are satisfied with, use the floral wire to hold the bundle together. When you make the bundles you are helping to mix the greens and integrate them well.

Step 2: Arrange the bundles on your grapevine wreath

Now that you have bundles you are satisfied with. Arrange them along your grapevine wreath to get a feel for how you will attach them.

I moved my bundles around quite a bit until I found a look I was satisfied. You can insert the tip of the bundle underneath the wires in the grapevine wreath to easily attach them.

When you are satisfied with the look of your wreath. Ensure they are attached securely. Use floral wire if needed to attach them more securely.

Step 3: Arrange pine cones and attach them to the grapevine wreath

Place your pine cones on your grapevine wreath. Play around with them until you are like their placement.

Use a long piece of floral wire to attach the pine cone to your grapevine wreath.

Secure the floral wire on the back side of the wreath.

Now stand back and admire!

I have to say I was super pleased with the result. I never imagined making a wreath this beautiful was truly so simple and inexpensive. Since the only items I purchased were the grapevine wreath form and the artificial eucalpytus leaves. My grand total was $8!

And once you have your greens on the wreath, it ends up being quite an impressive size and statement piece. I hung mine on my hutch for now. But this is really made to be an outdoor wreath too. So it would look beautiful on a front door or porch. I have a wreath that my sister Caroline gave me many Christmases ago that I usually keep on my front door, otherwise I would have totally used this one!

It truly is beautiful, full and perfectly rusticly Christmas!!
