If you are looking for inspiration for a gray coffee table makeover. Here is a dramatic gray coffee table makeover, a curbside throw away coffee table to a beautiful modern gray coffee table. You won’t want to miss it.
This gray coffee table makeover is a real Cinderella story. And who doesn’t love a good Cinderella story right? But to be honest with you the start of this story is a little bit embarrassing and required some thinking outside of the box. It is part of the Thrifty Thursday series that I do on the last Thursday of the month, with some of my blogging friends. So be sure to check out their posts below!
Ok but here’s the story of the gray coffee table makeover….
Last summer while my daughters and I were out walking I spotted this beautiful coffee table! Gorgeous right? Ok I know what you are probably thinking. But I just knew it had potential and I was now determined to get this coffee table home.
Before: Gray Coffee Table Makeover
So I did what every loving mother would do and asked my daughters to evacuate the stroller and walk the rest of way home with me. Then I put the coffee table in the stroller. This would have been a great picture, but that obviously was not an option at the time. Because I was completely occupied with safely directing my daughters home and keeping the coffee table on top of the stroller. At the same time I was trying to maintain some sort of dignity as I rolled this coffee table through our neighborhood.
It was a sight to be seen for sure, but we made it. Well at least the coffee table and my daughters, I think I maybe lost a few friends along the way! 🙂 And although I was ready to get started asap with this table, like I am most projects, the table sat in my garage until last week. So almost a year later I got started on it. Does this ever happen to anyone else?
Painting the Gray Coffee Table
This coffee table was in pretty rough shape. I wouldn’t say it was the junkiest piece I have ever re-done, but it was pretty ugly to start. There were water spots and even a large burn on the top of the coffee table. The sides had some water damage as well.
I have repaired coffee tables with water spots before, like the farmhouse coffee table. With that table I chose to stain the top and paint the bottom. But the water stains and burns were too severe on this coffee table so I decided I would just paint the entire coffee table gray.
Tip: Another option to consider, that I did not think of until after the table sold, is to attach wood planks across the top of the table. I would like to try this in a future project. Let me know in comments below if you have ever done this.
After: Gray Coffee Table Makeover
Once I started chalk painting the coffee table gray it was love at first sight. There was an immediate satisfaction of painting over the water stains and burns. And it felt so good!
I added two more coats of gray chalk paint, for a total of three coats of chalk paint. The table was like brand new again.
For the knob on the coffee table I opted for a larger size. I had several left over from Annabelle’s purple dresser makeover. And it was the perfect shade of bronze to go with the gray color.
And that’s it! I love the gray color and I think it lived up to all the potential I saw that day on the curb. What do you think?
