Learn how to make beautiful felt roses with this free tutorial and pattern. Felted roses are so easy anyone can make them. And once you know how to make a beautiful felt rose bud petal you can make roses to use for wreaths, hair pieces, or wrapping gifts. Learning how to make felt roses will open you to a whole new world of felting flowers.

I love felt, and I especially like felt roses. And learning how to make felt roses is a fun craft that anyone can do. This Valentine’s Day I had some red felt on hand so I chose to make a traditional red rose, but there are a lot of options of colors that would be beautiful. These roses turn out really pretty and once you cut out the basic pattern.

When I posted a picture of my gnome valentines some of the felt roses were pictured. Several people asked how to make the felt roses so I thought I would share that with you today. This is a quick and easy tutorial that anyone can make. It requires very basic supplies and is pretty straightforward.

So let’s get to making our felt roses!

Here’s what you need to make felt roses:

  • Rose Petal Patterns
  • Felt (red, pink or white, and green)
  • Hot glue sticks and hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Here’s how to make felt roses:

Step 1: Make your rose bud petals

Start by printing the pattern from your inbox. Cut out the small, medium, and large rose

Here are my small and medium petals.

petals. You will need 9 small petals, 4-6 medium, and 4-6 large rose petals. It is not necessary to cut the petals perfectly. After all no two rose petals are identical anyways.

And my larger petals.

Step 2: Glue the center rose petal in place

Start by taking one of your small rose petals and fold it so the edges overlap in the center of the petal. Hot glue it in place.

Step 3: Glue all the other rose petals in place

Now starting with your small rose petals, take one of the small rose petals and put hot glue on the bottom corner. Glue the second petal to the first, overlapping the first petal about 1/4″.

Glue the other side of the petal to the first petal. Hold the petal in place.

Caution: Be very careful when holding down the petals. Hot glue can be very hot and can easily burn the skin. I would recommend using silicone gloves to avoid burns.

Continue adding felt rose petals

Now you will continue to add all the small, medium, and large (in that order) rose petals by repeating the same process. Glue the bottom corner of the petal and attach to the previous petal, overlapping about 1/4″. Then gluing the second corner to the previous petal. Holding each petal in place.

Step 4: Attach leaves to your felt rose

The last step is to attach the leaves to your felt rose. Cut out the leaf pattern in green or other complimentary color, and hot glue the leaves on the under side of your felt rose.

Here’s a video on how to make felt roses:

If it’s easier for you to watch a video on how to make felt roses. I made the one below for you.

And that’s the easy peasy way to create beautiful felt roses that will last a bit longer than fresh roses! These roses can be used from year to year and they won’t wilt for quite awhile, I promise! 🙂

No time to make felt roses now? No worries, just pin for later!

I hope you enjoy making these beautiful felt roses! Feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you are just so impressed with your work that you want to share!!

Take care and God bless!
