Learn how to make a DIY red burlap Christmas wreath the easy way. This step by step tutorial will show you how to make your own red burlap Christmas wreath even as a beginner.
Today I am feeling ready for another Christmas craft, so how about a red burlap Christmas wreath!
Phew… the 12 days of Christmas are over but of course the Christmas season is just starting! And there were still a ton of projects I wanted to get to and I received a lot of awesome ideas from readers on additional projects. Today I am getting to one of those projects a tutorial for a beautiful red burlap Christmas wreath!
I did some burlap wreaths in the fall and I really like how easy these wreaths are to make. These wreaths can have quite a wow factor when paired with the right decor. I wanted to try a red burlap Christmas wreath just for something a little different. And I was happy because I was also able to use more of the upholstery webbing I have been excited to use for Christmas decorating.
Sometimes it is hard to decide on whether or not something will work for a project unless we see a final project. So if you have been wondering about how red burlap would look for a wreath, like I was, then perhaps this wreath will inspire you one way or another!

How to make a burlap wreath video:
If you prefer watching how to make a burlap wreath, here is a video on how to make a burlap wreath for fall. It is the exact same steps to make this beautiful red burlap Christmas wreath.
Here’s what you need to make a red burlap Christmas wreath:
- 3 Red Burlap Ribbon Rolls (5.5″x 15 ft)
- 14″ Wire Wreath Frame
- Floral Wire
- Scissors
- Christmas green, berries, or pine cones
- Upholstery Webbing
Here’s how to make a read burlap Christmas wreath:
Step 1: Attach your red burlap to the wire wreath
Using 15′ x 5.5″ burlap rolls, take the end of your burlap ribbon and fold it into quarters.
Using a small piece of floral wire. Attach the burlap to the wire wreath on the innermost circle of your wire wreath. It can be on any section you want to start with.
Step 2: Loop the red burlap through the wire wreath
Starting with the innermost ring where you attached the burlap to the wire wreath, create a loop through the first section of the wire wreath. Making a bubble loop with the burlap.
Then push the burlap through the second, and third sections. Make a bubble loop with the burlap similar to the first section. You can pull through as much as you would like to make the wreath the size you want.
Step 3: Twist the burlap on the under side of the wreath
Once you have all three loops in your wreaths. Take the burlap and twist it on the under side of the wire wreath form.
Then bring the burlap through the innermost section and repeat the loops again. Then twist on the back side, all three loops again, twist on the underside, and keep repeating.
As you do this, push your loops as close together as you can to make a full wreath.
Continue with the loops and twists until you run out of your burlap.
Step 4: Attach the end of the red burlap to the wire wreath
Once you reach the end of your burlap ribbon. Take a small piece of floral wire and again attach the burlap to the wire wreath.
Tip: Each 15 feet of burlap ribbon covered 2 sections in my 14″wire wreath form. You can make it as tight as mine or looser.
Start again with another roll of the burlap ribbon until you fill the entire wreath form.
Step 5: Add Christmas floral, berries or pine cones
If you want to add some Christmas touches to the wreath. Take your floral wire and wrap your arrangement together. Then stick it in your wreath and attach it with the floral wire. The nice thing about burlap is it will hold the arrangement nicely.
Attach your upholstery webbing or ribbon to hang your wreath. I used a hot glue gun and made my upholstery webbing into a loop.
And that’s it!
I imagined this beautiful red burlap wreath with a gold mirror that I have in my living room. So that’s where I will put it for now.
But what do you think? Do you like red enough to make a full wreath out of it for Christmas? It seems like red is a very passionate color and people usually have polarizing views about it.

Elizabeth,
Is the burlap ribbon wired or without wire? It looks like it is without, but wanted to double check before I buy. It is a beautiful wreath, I am going to attempt it.
Elizabeth Walby says
Hi Dianna, the burlap with this wreath is not wired. Let me know how it turns out! Elizabeth

On the red burlap wreath when u get done making the 3 rows of burlap bubbles and you said to twist it before starting the next set of 3 bubbles. I don’t understand what you mean by that because it looks like u made a knot of some sort.
Elizabeth Walby says
Hi Jean, there is no knot involved. It is simply twisting the burlap and then bringing it back through the bottom row again with a bubble. It might feel clumsy at first but it gets easier once you do a few rows. Please let me know if you have any other questions. You can also email me: elizabeth@awellpurposedwoman.com.
