Indoor Planter Boxes: Ideas for Fall

If you have been on my blog lately you have seen pumpkins, you have seen me make them with socks, sweaters and everything in between. Well today I thought it would be fun to give you an idea of how to style your pumpkins as part of your fall decor on our dining room table, coffee table or somewhere else in your house.

My husband’s aunt Colleen is visiting us this weekend, so I roped her in as part of the fun. But luckily she enjoys decorating and fall decor ideas as well. We decided to focus on styling a planter box.

I used several different things I already had on hand: dried hydrangeas, white pumpkins from our pumpkin patch adventure last weekend, and some dark purple velvet pumpkins I had made. The pumpkins of course were re-purposed from a dark purple velvet dress I found last year at a thrift store.

I tried the planter box on both my dining room table and the coffee table in my living room. The coffee table is a much darker wood. And since I wanted the center of attention in my planter box to be the dark velvet pumpkins, I went with the coffee table. I like how the dark grains in the wood seem to soften the deep purple of the pumpkins

I think if you are styling a planter box for fall it is nice to have a combination or real live foliage, pine cones, dried leaves or flowers, real pumpkins mixed with some artificial items like the fabric pumpkins. You could also insert a candle or two as I nice touch.

Just to add some dimensions I also added some glittery leaves and berries I had in my craft stash from last Christmas. I like how the shiny leaves and berries match the reflective velvet. Plus it added some varying levels of heights.

This is a really simple fall decor idea for a table but I think it’s elegant and quite a statement for my coffee table. I hope it might give you an idea of how to style your own planter box or baskets for fall.

I gotta say, I think this small project was more fun today because I had a partner in DIY crime! The more we played around with things the more we enjoyed the end result!

So my advice to you is if you want to style a planter box for fall, use it as an excuse to spend time with a friend or family member. It’s just better when you have two heads rather than one!

I took so many pictures of this planter box because I love how it turned out! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and happy fall decorating!

No time to do it now, no worries just pin for later!

Lovely. How do you dry your Hydrangeas? I picked some and within a short time they were shriveled up?

Hi Sally! Thanks for stopping by. Wait until they are pale green and a bit dry. Cut off the leaves and stems to the length you want. Then hang them in your garage or prop them up in a vase/ container and let them dry out.
