10 Easy Yarn Crafts for Adults and Kids for Christmas

Learn how to make 10 easy Christmas Yarn Crafts for adults and kids. These 10 Christmas yarn crafts are SO EASY anyone can make them! No knitting, no crocheting skills needed, but they still turn out beautiful!

Welcome to Day 23 of our Countdown to Christmas today we are doing 10 easy yarn crafts for adults and children alike. If you have a drawer full of yarn and haven’t used it in awhile? This tutorial will show you the step by step the process of making 10 beautiful Christmas yarn crafts.

From pom poms, tassel trees, yarn wrapped Christmas trees, wrapped yarn stockings and even macrame like yarn rainbow ornaments. I really think you will be INSPIRED to use up all that extra yarn instead of just buying new Christmas decorations this year!

And because I really want to help you craft more and stress less this Christmas, you can find a list of supplies for each craft below! Here’s to using more supplies we might already have!

So let’s get started on these easy yarn crafts!

Here are 10 Christmas Yarn Crafts for Adults and Kids

1. Tassel Banner or Tassel Tree

The first project is a fairly easy one. You can watch the video or learn to make a tassel fairly quickly. You can also see the written tassel instructions here. Then just string different colors together to make a garland. Or arrange the tassels on a canvas and make a unique Christmas tree.

Here are the supplies needed to make a tassel banner:

  • 3 Coordinating Yarns in Any Colors
  • Twine or golden ribbon
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors -(Optional)
  • Canvas or Sign for the tassel tree

2. Yarn Gnome Ornament

Gnome can be made of almost anything: socks, tin cans, wood scraps, paper mache cones, mason jars and today heart shaped Dollar Tree ornaments.

Just take your heart ornament upside down. Add a hat to the pointy part of the heart and then add some yarn that has been brush out on the bottom half of the heart. Hot glue a wooden nose in the center of the gnomes face. Embellish your gnome as you would like.

  • Dollar Store Heart
  • Yarn or Chunky Yarn Pulled Apart
  • Hot Glue Gune and Gluesticks
  • Wooden Nose
  • Fabric for Hat
  • Rick Rack or Ribbon
  • Twine

3. Mini Mason Jar Lid Yarn Wreaths

This craft is truly one of my favorite yarn wrapping crafts. Just start with a mason jar lid. Wrap chunky yarn around the mason jar lid, making a cozy little wreath. Here are the supplies needed to make mini mason jar lid yarn wreaths:

  • Mason Jar Lid
  • Chenille Chunky Yarn
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Ribbon or Twine
  • Scissors
  • Embellishments (optional)

4. Yarn Stockings

This easy yarn craft is perfect for kids and adults. Simply print out the stocking pattern. Trace it onto cardboard and cut out.

Then cover the cardboard with felt and wrap matching yarn around the cardboard piece. Add a different color yarn on the toes and top of the stocking. Embellish with buttons, letters or other Christmas embellishments.

  • Felt
  • Yarn of Choice and Coordinating Chunky Yarn or Fabric
  • Hot Glue Gun & Gluesticks
  • Button or other Embellishment
  • Scissors

5. Yarn Snowflakes

I found these sweet wooden snowflakes at our local craft store. Use antiquing wax to darken the snowflakes.Then wrap different color yarns around the snowflakes. Use buttons to embellish the tips of the snowflakes.

  • MDF Snowflakes or other Snowflakes
  • Antiquing Wax
  • Buttons
  • Yarn of Choice
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Scissors

6. Yarn Rainbow Ornament

This yarn rainbow ornament is another one your children might enjoy doing as well. Take three sturdy pieces of rope, thick macrame or nautical rope. Then choose three complimentary yarn colors. Wrap your yarn around the three thicker strands. Then just hot glue or sew all the rows together. You can watch a video on making this yarn rainbow ornament here.

  • 30” of Chunky White Yarn
  • 3 Coordinating Yarns of Different Colors
  • Floral Wire
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Twine
  • Scissors

7. Yarn Pom Pom Banner

Yarn pom poms are easy to make and a fun activity for kids and adults. I wrote a full tutorial on how to make pom poms if you prefer written instructions. These little fuzzy pom poms can be made in any color and are even with different types of yarn. They are definitely worth trying.

Here are the supplies needed to make a yarn pom pom banner:

  • 1-2 Skeins of Yarn of Choice
  • Cardboard 3” Long
  • Hot Glue Gun & Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Mason Jar Lid Cover (Optional)
  • Twine

8. Yarn Christmas Trees

These yarn Christmas trees are easy to make and fun for everyone! Just start with a paper mache tree and hot glue chunky yarn all the way around. Embellish your tree with Christmas picks and pine cones.

  • Paper Mache or Styrofoam Trees
  • Chunky Yarn
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Birch Stump or other Tree Trunk (Optional)
  • Exacto Knife
  • Embellishments (Optional)

9. Macrame Yarn Christmas Tree

Here are the supplies needed to make a macrame yarn Christmas tree:

  • 11” Piece of Cardboard
  • Yarn of Choice
  • Wooden Star or Bead
  • Wooden Dowel (Optional)
  • Buttons
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Triangle Cut Out

10. Yarn Planter Container

Did you know you can make a beautiful yarn planter from a tin can and some chunky yarn? Start with a large 28 oz tin can and just hot glue chunky yarn all the way around it. Use cork on the bottom of the can to add an extra refined look.

Here are the supplies needed to make a yarn planter container:

  • 28 oz Tin Can
  • Chunky Yarn Size 7
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Cork & Exacto Knife
  • Scissors
