Little girls purple dresser makeover. Inspiration to transform an ordinary dresser into a beautiful purple dresser for a little girl’s room.

When you are a DIY mama, sometimes you need to do a special project just for your child. After-all they are the ones graciously playing around me as I make a mess with whatever project I am doing. Today’s Friday Furniture Freebie is a girls dresser makeover I did in Annie Sloan’s Emile for my daughter Annabelle.

My oldest daughter Annabelle loves purple. She often asks people what their favorite color is just to see if it might be purple like hers.

When we moved into our current home. Annabelle really wanted her bedroom to be painted purple. So I found a color that had purple “hues” in it for her room. Hoping it wold be a nice color but not too purple.

After we painted her bedroom, Annabelle told me the color was white not purple. And really she was right. The color ended up being a lot less purple than what it looked like when we put the sample on the wall.

Although I may still paint her walls more of a purple color for the time being I came up with another plan. How about we paint your dresser purple? Of course, her answer was a resounding yes!

Here’s a before picture of the dresser I got free off of Craigslist.

I have to admit I was still a little nervous about using a full on purple to color her dresser. But this time I went for it, just for Annabelle.

I chose Annie Sloan’s Emile with a clear wax. The color is definitely purple but since it’s Annie Sloan’s I figured it would still turn out beautiful.

When I put the first coat of paint on I was really uncertain about the decision. It had been a pretty dresser in white. Why did I do this?

Here’s Annabelle helping apply the first coat.

But then Annabelle walked in the room. She had the biggest smile, which makes me tear up as I write this. She absolutely loved it! Purple! She exclaimed and gave her sister a hug. She was so excited!

Ok it was not only a good decision….it was a great one! To see my little girl so thrilled about her dresser. What does it matter? Its only a dresser. And she is only a child for a short time.

So I persevered and added a few more coats of paint. I have to admit the dresser was growing on me.

Once I finished adding the paint. I used clear wax to seal the dresser. Then I added the knobs. The knobs were actually what had given me the idea to re-do the dresser in purple. For some reason I could picture a purple color with the antique brass knobs. And I have to say they really did add a dimension that I liked.

Aren’t these build in dividers so nice. Truly makes re-doing old furniture worth it!

Another thing my daughter Annabelle absolutely loves is surprises! So I thought it would be fun to put some special paper on the drawers as a cool surprise! She thought it was a good idea too. I had her pick out the paper she liked and we narrowed it down to five different designs. I decoupaged it to the drawers and the dresser was finished!

As I have been working on the dresser the last couple of days it has been in our kitchen and dining room at times. (See what I mean about the kiddos being willing to play around me.) It has brought a little bit of joy to my heart each time I see it. The color stands out compared to the other neutrals in the room and it’s just so joyful!

It is a reminder to me of how much life and color children bring into our lives. My daughters have changed the way I see the world in so many ways.

This dresser makeover was a small symbol of that. My daughter wanted a color I wouldn’t have ever chosen. And yet supporting her little decision helped me see things from a different perspective. I really love her choice and think the purple is perfect now!

What do you think? Are you up for trying a new color to bring some life into your home? Let me know below!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Elizabeth
