Learn how to craft a cute little sheep ornament for Christmas. This step by step guide will show you the steps to make this sheep craft for kids and adults alike. These little sheep ornaments are part of our Jesse Tree craft along to Christmas.

Today is day 5 of our Jesse Tree craft along to Christmas and we will be making a sheep ornament. I love sheep crafts and this is a really cute one! My daughter pretty much created this tutorial on her own so I hope that you enjoy making these sheep with your kids and grandkids.
On Day 5 of our Jesse Tree we are reading Genesis 22 which is the story of Abraham and Isaac. This story is hard to understand from a human perspective because God calls Abraham to a radical level of obedience. Thankfully the story doesn’t end with the radical obedience alone but God shows His radical love for Abraham and Isaac by providing a ram in Isaac’s place.
“Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son..” – Genesis 22:13
Since God so faithfully provided a picture of His own son’s sacrifice by the provision of the ram in the thicket I thought today would be the perfect day to create a sheep ornament. This sheep craft is again designed for children and adults alike.
Here’s the supplies need to make a sheep ornament:
- White yarn
- Piece of dark felt or sweater material
- Twine
- Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
- Cardboard
- Scissors
Here’s how to make a sheep ornament:
Step 1: Trace and cut out your sheep’s body, head and feet
Take your cardboard and make a oval shaped body. This doesn’t need to be perfect. The body of the sheep will be covered in yarn so any oval shape will work. But cut out a cardboard oval for the sheep’s body. Next cut out 4 feet and a head with the dark felt.

Step 2: Wrap the sheep’s body with yarn
The next step is to wrap the yarn around the sheep’s body. You can use chunky yarn or smaller sized yarn, whatever you have on hand should work. We used white yarn but you could make different color sheep as well.

Step 3: Hot glue the yarn onto the sheep’s body
The next step is to glue the yarn onto the sheep’s body. If you are child is using a hot glue gun please make sure an adult is present to help. Glue both ends of the yarn onto the sheep.

Step 4: Glue or tie the yarn lengths together
Now take glue your face and feet onto your sheep. Again if you are using a hot glue gun please make sure an adult is present to help. The last step would be to add a small bit of yarn on the back of your sheep for a tail. My daughter did this with her little lamb.

And that’s it! Now you have these cute little sheep ornaments that can remind you of God’s provision even in the most extreme circumstances. He is our provision.

I really hope you are enjoying this Jesse Tree craft along to Christmas! If you missed any of the other days you can catch them down below. Please let me know in the comments below if you have tried any of these yet or if you have ones that you would like to try soon!
