Let’s make beautiful heart angel ornaments with tassels and beads for Christmas! These heart ornaments use yarn and wooden beads. Heart angel ornaments are a nice gift for Christmas or any other time. They are a simple Christmas craft for adults and kids alike.

Today we are on day 17 of our Jesse Tree tradition going to learn how to make these beautiful heart angel ornaments. These heart angel ornaments were inspired by the music sheet ornaments I made earlier this Christmas. I hope you will find these heart angel ornaments are easy to make an a beautiful reminder of God’s love for you.

I have been very intrigued by angels recently. They are actually all over the Bible and God uses them for so many different purposes to fulfill His work.

Angels are a good reminder to me lately of God’s work in and around us. During Christmas I read about how angels were used to tell of the Savior’s birth. In other parts of the Bible they provided comfort, protection and warning to the children of God. I think that God uses angels more than we think.

So let’s get to work making these beautiful heart angel ornaments!

Supplies needed to make a heart angel ornament:

  • Yarn of your choice
  • Wooden Heart Slices
  • Angel wings
  • Wooden beads
  • Antiquing Wax
  • Hot Glue Gun and Gluesticks
  • Scissors

Here’s a video on how to make heart angel ornaments:

Step 1: Heart Angel Ornament: Make a tassel

Start by wrapping your yarn around a book or piece of cardboard that is about 6″ long. Wrap the yarn about 30-35 revolutions around the book.

Take your scissors and cut toward the top of one of the ends of the book. Now you will have 30-35 12″ pieces. Cut the other end of the yarn. Lay the yarn pile on your table.

Now we are going to make the head of our angel. Cut a piece of yarn that is 24″ and fold it in half. Tie a knot. 6″ down from the folded end. Now make 2-4 additional knots on top of the first so you will have a nice thick knot. This knot will hold your bead in place for your angel’s head.

Take a bobby pin and grab the two open ends of your yarn. Feed the yarn onto the bobby pin. Then use the bobby pin to go through the center of your bead.

Now your bead will be on your yarn and should stop when it gets to the knot you created. Tie a second not underneath the bead to keep the bead in place. The second knot is optional but just gives the bead a little more reinforcement.

Now that the bead is on your yarn. Take the open two ends of your yarn and tie a knot with them through the center of the pile of yarn on your table like below.

Now you will have your angels body. You can use this as your angels body or you can continue to make a complete tassel. I will show you the next step to finish the tassel.

To finish your tassel. Cut another length of yarn that is about 20″. Tie this piece around the body about 1/2″ down from the bead above it just like the pictures below.

Continue wrapping the yarn until the yarn is used up. Then tie off the two ends and cut off any extra length. Now your tassel is complete.

Just cut off any uneven ends on the bottom of your tassel.

Step 2: Attach the heart to your heart angel ornament

The next step is to take your wooden heart and hot glue it onto the body of your angel. Before I attached my hearts I added some antiquing wax to them. You could also leave the wood slices as is.

Step 3: Attach your wings to your heart angel ornament

The next step is to attach your angel wings. Turn your angel ornament around and hot glue the wings to the back of the angel. Hold them in place until the glue dries.

And that’s it! Now you have beautiful heart angel ornaments for Valentines Day and every other season in between. You will just repeat these steps for each of the different colors of yarn you are using.
