Learn how to make a lion with paper bags. This tutorial is a fun lion craft that uses a paper bag to make lion puppets. All you need to make this lion is a paper bag and a few other supplies.

Today is day 15 of our Jesse Tree craft along to Christmas and we are going to make some lions out of paper bags. This simple paper bag craft goes along with the courageous story of Daniel in the lion’s den. Daniel was obedient to God, and God rescued him from a real danger by closing the mouth of lions.
“My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” Daniel 6:22
We needed a quick and easy craft today so these paper bags seemed like the perfect idea. They still remind us of how the lion’s surrounded Daniel, but he did not have even a scratch or bite on him when he was rescued. So let’s get started!
Here’s the supplies need to make a paper bag lion:
- Paper Bag
- Scissors
- Black paper
- Glue
Here’s how to make a lion paper bag:
Step 1: Cut off the bottom 3 inches of your paper bag
Start with your paper bag and cut off the bottom 3 inches or your bag. Fringe the 3 inches (cut 1/4″ slits along the piece that you cut off of your bag. Then cut off one side of your piece, opening up the piece into a fringed edge.

Step 2: Glue the lion mane on the top edge of the paper bag
The next step is to add the mane to your paper bag lion. Add glue around the edge of the top of the paper bag, and attach the fringe around the top edge of the lion.

Step 3: Add a face to your paper bag lion
The last step is to add a cute face to your lion. You can use black paper or a black sharpie to make the face.

Add a nose, eyes, a mouth and whiskers. My daughter also added pink cheeks to her lion and some eyelashes.
And that’s it! Now you have your paper bag lion!
